The drafts

August seems to be my month. Or better my novel month. It was last August that I finished the first draft of the second book in my trilogy and it was March when I decided to rewrite it.

I took my time, I didn’t write full time and I decided to create a new file and start writing from scratch. And I did it.

It’s August again and the second draft of my book is ready!

A Letter to You

Dear self,

Sometimes I know that you just let it go. You're tired, maybe your head hurts or you are not in the mood, and you think: I'll do it tomorrow there's no harm done.

And tomorrow comes and passes by so fast and you're still lost somewhere between life and responsibilities that you barely realize that another day is over. You lay in bed, thinking that you'll do it tomorrow and without even acknowledging it you're in a loop.

When the fog dissolves

I think I've got it all figured out!

It was about time. Or it wasn't. I don't really know when, if there is such a time, where you know all the stuff about your story, but last night I saw the bigger picture. (The Kamikaze move actually helped me a lot!)

Usually, I write following my gut. There is a scene that prompts me to write, a character or some random words that came to mind and turned out to be a story. That usually goes on until I'm pretty close to the end where, at last, I know how the story is going to end.

Birthday girl

So, today is my birthday! I’m turning twenty-six but no one needs to know, right? This will be our little secret! Shush!

I knew I wanted to do a special post for this beautiful day, but I wasn’t quite sure what to write. So there I was writing my new project and I thought, why not? What is better than share with you what I love the most? You know what they say about writing, that we give a part of our soul and I totally agree.

Rewriting

Lately there is an itchiness inside me, one that I can’t really scratch away and it has to do with editing or better yet, with rewriting. You know what they say, right? True writing is rewriting. According to science fiction novelist Michael Crichton "Books are not written--they're rewritten."  

I’m starting to believe that he is right.

New and excited

New month, new project!

Last week I crossed the finish line for my second YA book, Damaged. 

I was writing on and off, sneaking some time here, finding some time there, so it took me more time  to finish it than I’d wish. I absolutely love working on Meg’s story and even if there will be another book in this series, Damaged is still a priority. Meg’s story is on hold though, until I take a look in Damaged after a month or so. You know, so I can really look at it.

Finish Line

I’m there, almost at the end.

I see the finish line at the end of the road. It’s shining and bright, waiting for me to cross it, but I stand still and watch it.

I really can’t believe that I’m actually this close to finish my book. It was a hard one, not because the voices didn’t talk to me this time, but because time was limited and I was writing on and off, when I was really craving for more.

Do authors cry when they kill the best character?

That’s a question from a curious reader, as she calls herself, and I totally see her point. So let’s give an answer to this interesting question!

Writing matters

A couple of days ago, I had a talk with a writer about his writing and what stuck in my mind was a simple question he asked during the conversation. Well, a rhetorical question followed by an awkward laugh. You know, the one that sends the words unspoken but yet, means so much more than any sentence.

A writing advice?

My sister says I have an old soul.

That my soul is one of those wandering the world for centuries and I have seen and lived everything. She says she sees it in my eyes, in my reactions and every time I do something she is looking me closely. When we are at the same country at least. :)

Long forgotten

Hey, I’m back!

It’s been a crazy week with family and lots of walking and running around. I have barely touch a book, but it was a good way to find some long lost strength, even if I was drained of energy. The days I spent with family I had the chance to go snooping around my old bedroom and I was surprised by my findings.

It’s amazing how easy we can remember and forget things and this past weekend I realized how many things I have forgotten. Like how I started writing.
