QUESTION OF THE WEEK: Have you ever broken up with a series? If so, which one and why?

Oh…series! Series are the story of my life. I just love series. Not love, I adore them. Most of the books I’ve read are series. Seriously, I have to struggle and choose one that has not a sequel. I can’t really explain why. Maybe I’m getting too attached with the characters and I hate when their story ends after only one book. Well, I hate broken up with a book and especially with a series, but yes I’ve done it. Oh, don’t give me the judgmental look, everyone has done it, right? I’ve broken up with The Vampire Diaries. I read the first four but I wasn’t so thrilled. Then I heard many friends say that the rest aren’t so good and I left them.

That’s it. I get if off my chest. I feel better now. :)

How about you? I’m dying to learn.
I wish you all a great weekend.

I only read the first book of the Vampire Diaries, lost interest to read the rest after that. :/

  6. I'm a series girl too, but I always dread the final installment. Not that I want a series to run up into the twenties or anything, still it's hard to part with characters that I know so well. So far all my books have been part of a series because it's even harder to stop writing them. I never started up with Vampire Diaries, but there are so many now and then so many spinoffs. Happy reading, Athina!...and writing (so cool you're back to it).

    1. I'm now writing the sequel to Divided and I must admit that is a unique experience. I hadn't thought I could write a series as much I loved reading them. I guess I'll have to see how that will go. :)

  7. Well to me, after the first 4 Vampire Diaries the rest don't really count. I read the first four and loved them! Read them way before the show began and even have the awesome 90s covers on them!

I did read the first new "trilogy" from them and found it to be so-so. Then afterwards I heard L.J. wasn't going to be writing them anymore. Someone else would under her name. If memory serves, it was because the publishers didn't like the direction she was taking it?? Can't be sure if that was true since it's been a long time and I don't completely remember what the reason was. But yeah, I stopped after the first new trilogy. But I still love the original 4!

    Here's my Follow Friday

    Have a GREAT weekend!

    1. I saw the show first and then i read the books. I guess that was one of the reasons I didn't enjoyed it so much. I don't know about the other books, but I haven't heard positive comments.
Have a great weekend too. :)

  8. I usually read single books, but I just started reading series, so I don't have many of them on my list. I love series, though. I like continuing the journey with a character.

I haven't read The Vampire Diaries. Sorry to hear you lost interest along the way.

Have a nice weekend! And thanks for stopping by my FF. :)

  9. I have been trying to avoid getting into series. I can't help but want to pick up the next one and the next one. But sometimes you just have to break off before that relationship turns out to be bad for you *sigh* .

I've only ever watched Vampire Diaries on t.v, never bothered to pick up the books though.

Thanks for stopping by my FF!

  10. I broke up with the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series in college. I loved the first two, thought the third was pretty good. I wasn't as crazy about the fourth, and I didn't finish the fifth. I just wasn't into it anymore, and I knew I'd be disappointed by the ending.

  12. Oh, your 100th post? Congrats!

I've broken up with many series in the past, too. One of them, like you, is The Vampire Diaries. I absolutely adore the first four books, but the trilogy that followed it...yeck. It felt more like an OOC fanfic than an official continuation...

    1. Thanks. :)
Hehe...you're probably right. Some of my friends have read the rest of the books and they tell me that I did the right thing to stop there.
      Thanks for stopping by.
