The Lux series rock

A while ago this series used to be in every book blog I was visiting. So, one day I decided to give it a try, mostly curious about Daemon Black who was spreading panic everywhere. Is he so interesting? I was wondering, but now I have an answer.

Obsidian and Onyx by Jennifer L. Armentrout totally rock!

I’ve read only the first two books in this series and I’m excited. Before I start talking about them though, let’s say a few things about the story.

Katy moves to West Virginia and her dull life is changing fast and unexpectedly when she meets her neighbor, Daemon Black. They do not get along, but when a stranger attacks her and Daemon freezes time to save her … well, things take a different turn and they have to stick together for a while. Especially since Daemon is an alien and now Katy knows about it.

Aliens! To be honest, when I read that the book was about aliens, I frowned. The only book I’ve read about aliens is the Host, which blew my mind and I feared Obsidian might spoiled the beautiful image I had in my head. But it didn’t. Obsidian’s aliens rocks!

Katy is a very likable character. She is almost eighteen, likes to read a lot, she has a book blog and a simple life. She is quiet and peaceful, but hides the pain for her father’s death, deep in her heart. She reminds me of a sleeping volcano. Ready to explode at any time, with deadly consequences.

Daemon Black on the other hand didn’t stand out to me so much. Oh, I know you must be blinking at me right now, but he just irritated me! The smartass style is not my favorite, but it suits him. I did smile with his comments and all, but it wasn’t enough to oversee that he was a douchebag, as Katy says, most of the times! So, he may be gorgeous, but I hope we’ll see a hidden personality as the story moves on.

I read Obsidian fast since the story is interesting, fast-paced and well written. Jennifer L. Armentrout pulled me right in her story and I traveled with her in a new reality that made me smile and get excited about. I got totally lost in the book and that’s the magic.

Here’s an excerpt I read at least twice. I’ve always found that the most beautiful people, truly beautiful inside and out, are quietly unaware of their effect. The ones who throw their beauty around, waste what they have. Their beauty is passing, It’s just a shell hiding nothing but shadows and emptiness.

Charmed by the great ending, I wanted more, so Onyx was a huge challenge for me. Would it be that good?

And it was!

In Onyx, Katy and Daemon are growing closer. The DoD is in town drawn by some weird stuff that happened and so things are on edge. Plus there is a new arrival in town who’s got a secret of his own. Blake has the answers that Katy wants and her life is getting out of control.

I started reading Onyx immediately after I finished Obsidian and despite that I was already in Katy’s world, I felt different. Which is good, because there was a different kind of beauty in this one. I could tell just from the beginning. And it didn’t disappoint me.

Blake, the new entry, was very interested. I had no clue how the story would unfold, but I liked every new development. Some things were a little obvious though, but the language, the setting and Armentrout’s voice didn’t let me get bored or sigh. Plus I get to like Daemon a little more in this one! I know though he has more goodness in him. Or at least some maturity!

Onyx ended in a very promising way and my expectations for Opal are way too high! Now I get why the Lux series were everywhere in the blogosphere.

And who knows, until I finish reading them, Daemon may have grown on me!

  1. ooo, I read the 2 not too long ago. I didn't like Daemon at all... and Katy was okay. I liked her less in book 2 though! :(

I'm sort of questioning if I should read book 3 or even continue the series since I don't want to give Armentrout a terrible rating in the long run. .-.

    1. Daemon has a strong personality that's for sure. In book two I liked him better. Maybe you should give it a try. Aren't you curious about Opal?

  2. EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! I love this series so much. Daemon rubs everyone wrong, but I definitely can't help but love him. This story brings so many surprises and twists with raw action and hilarious humor. It's on my fav's list definitely. I'm glad to see you are enjoying it :D Getting to hang out with a book blogger as the main character is really neat. Jaclyn @ JC's Book Haven.

    1. I love the surprises and the twists. Plus author's writing is so beautiful, that I'm getting lost in the story and just I'm enjoying it so much!

I look forward to read the next book in this series!

Thanks for stopping by, Jaclyn. Have a great day!

  3. I've read the first two I think. It's been a while and my brain is much, but I had the same reaction. I loved it. Katie being a book blogger rocked. I loved the part where she's checking her comments and she flips from despair to elation when she sees she has comments. I loved that she hated Daemon as much as I did. What an arrogant ass. My favorite was his POV in the extra bit at the end. You make me want to pick this series back up, maybe start over from the beginning.

I'm glad you're enjoying it. Are you going to check out her other series?

    1. Exactly, Daemon is an arrogant ass! I didn't read those parts because I felt like I was going to spoil it, like Daemon would stop being an ass and I would be disappointed, LOL.

I'll keep reading Lux for now and maybe I'll check the other series someday. :)

Have you read any other series by this author?
