Opal

Holy crap!

That was my reaction when I started and finished Opal, the third book in Lux series. Talk about a powerful start and you got one right here.

Jennifer L. Armentrout is doing her best for these books. Most of the times as a series goes on, I happen to find stuff I don’t like and disappointment kicks in, but Lux series keep getting more awesome, I’m telling you!

If you still haven’t read the Lux series, just read them now!

So, Opal.

Daemon dropped his mask and showed his real self. He wants Katy and he isn’t afraid to show it anymore. The author does a great job on building their relationship and even if Daemon is more daring with Katy, he isn’t out of character. So many times I found myself wanting to slap him again. He has grown on me, but he has to keep trying!

Katy on the other hand is changing. She doesn’t remind me the little girl she was in Obsidian and since everything that went down, her change was needed. She is more confident, stronger, but when she is around Daemon she’s losing it a little. But I guess that’s because of the love thing! Understandable.

What’s interesting here is the relationship between Katy and Dee. After the ugly stuff that happened in Onyx, I really wanted to know how that would go. And it doesn’t go that well. Every character has changed since the previous book, building up the tension and making each book somewhat different. I like that.

As I said before, Opal has a powerful start and pretty soon I was wondering about the progress. I wanted it to keep the tension and I wanted more troubles to come. Well, I wasn’t disappointed.

Frankly there were some parts where things were a little smoother, but it couldn’t have been any differently. After all that’s how the author builds tension. I respect that. Plus there were some loose ends from Onyx that needed to be dealt with. If you have read the book, you know what I mean. So there was some attention there.

And don’t tell me you didn’t love the developments. There are surprises in the story that made me gasp. Stuff happened abruptly and unexpectedly which were mind blowing. If you have a good eye, you notice the hints that Jennifer L. Armentrout gives us, but even with those bells ringing, I didn’t quite figure it out! And that makes me want more.

Want a little taste?

Brain cells were scrambled and twisted. Muscles locked up in panic and pain. My eyelids were peeled open. Lungs tried to expand, to drag in air, but there was something wrong with the air –it scaled my mouth and throat. Somewhere, in the distant part of me that could still function, I knew what this was.

  1. I love this series!! My favorite one so far is Origin, but I haven't read Opposition yet. I think when I finish with Opposition it'll bee my favorite, because for me the books get better and better in this series.

  2. Great review! I haven't read this series, but I do have the first Lux book on my Kindle. I really need to get around to reading it sometime! (Who knows when that'll be, though, since my TBR pile is so huge, haha.)

  3. You say it so well! I adore the character growth in this series. Watching them become better people, but also staying true to themselves deep down is so enjoyable. The whole thing with Dee broke my heart. They are besties and it hurt my heart a bit. Love the review :D Jaclyn @ JC's Book Haven.
