Think Out Loud: Feel the book

This is Think out Loud. It’s a weekly meme created to help bloggers break out from the blogging bubble. The rules are simple. We post whatever we want and let people know what’s in our mind. Visit the creator on Thinks Books and join too. It’s so cool to share your random thoughts.

Feeling the book. That’s quite the magic, don’t you agree?

Here’s the thing. Since July that my sis bought me an e-reader, I keep buying e-books. Oh, I have gone crazy! I stuff them in my reader and I carry a whole library with me all the time and everywhere. It’s incredibly convenient.

But of course I would be lying if I didn’t say how much I’ve missed a regular book. I have missed its feel in my hands, the turning of the pages and most of all the smell of paper and dust. That’s why last week I bought Dark Places by Gillian Flynn and I can’t wait to read it, feel its weight in my hands and crumple the pages.

Which brings us to an important question. How does the book look like when you’re done with it? New and perfect or crumpled and messy?

This is a very fun topic to discuss with a friend. Her books are so perfect just like they’re new and mine … well, it’s not that I destroy my books, but some may be more damaged than the others. Especially the ones I carry to the beach with me.

How about you? Do you enjoy e-books as much as paperbacks? And tell how they look too. I’m curious! :)

Happy Thursday!

  1. Great posy Athina. I don't actually have an e-reader but I do have the Kindle app on my phone which takes over as my e-reader when I do read from it. I'm not a huge fan of reading e-books because I tend to take longer on those than if I were to read from print but I do have like over 200 e-books! LOL Many of them were gifts and free so....what can I say. I do like them but just not as much. I end up buying print versions of e-books I love anyways. Don't judge. :)

I just absolutely love prints! Mines are all nice and new looking. Only a few are creased at the binding because they were the very first books I got so I was less careful then or they were used books I got from thrift stores, but I like to keep them clean.

    1. I had the Kindle app too before the e-reader. It was great. Well, I do that too. And a friend does that too. Buying the printed version of some books. I don't know, it's different to hold it in your hands. You're right.

You too? All nice and looking, huh? Oh, maybe I need to hide my books from plain view. haha!

Nice talking to you, Kipha! Have a great day. :)

  2. I enjoy paperbacks and ebooks equally! I tend to be obsessive about keeping my books nice, so I'd say I'm more like your friend in that regard, heh. But then there are certain books that I've read so much, it was pretty impossible for them to not get damaged at least a little!

    1. Hmm, seems that I am too rough to my books. haha. To some at least.
      Thanks for stopping by. :)

  3. This is a fun topic.
I have a friend that likes his books to stay new and unbent. He demands that I not bend the spine when I burrow his books. This is a bit difficult with paperbacks (I find) but I am careful when it come to his books. However, I like reading my books and don't worry about the spine getting creases. I like it when my books have that "well read" look.
As for ebooks I enjoy the benefits that they offer. Of course I'd still pick regular books if I could access them more easily (financially). I don't have an ereader so I just have to read them on my computer which isn't that handy.

    1. New and unbent, Yeah, I can't do that. Not at all. My friend is careful enough with the spine too. She even checks every book in the store before she buys it. It's fun. I like teasing her.
I'm like you. I prefer the "well read" look. That's how I enjoy a book. :)
I used to read on my computer too, but it wasn't easy. Now with the reader is perfect, but like you, if I can afford more prints, I go for it.
Thanks for stopping by. I'm glad you shared your thoughts.
      Have a great week!

  4. I love physical books and ebooks pretty equally. I go back and forth. The neatest thing about the ereader is the insta-dictionary.

I try to be so careful with my books, but I do smile every time I add a little character to it (except if it's a loan-then I stress and maybe replace the book because I kept stuffing it in my coat pocket every time I left the house). What a fun post, Athina! I hope you have a wonderful week!!
