Dream on

Lately I spent too much time editing Divided and then I spent too many hours thinking about Damaged, the sequel I’m currently writing. So a big chunk of my everyday ‘routine’ was about my books and my writing. As many of you know, it’s really hard to write a book and many times very emotional. So I had my ups and downs for a pretty long time.

Then I read somewhere a few funny words that I don’t seem to forget and I want to share with you the thoughts that were born in my mind. It was a picture and it said: One day we should fight: Dreamers and realists. Only we would have unicorns, elves and dragons. You’re fucked. (Sorry for the F word.)

I stared at those words far too long, realizing how true this is because I’m one of them. I am a Dreamer. I am one of those people who believe. Not in a greater power, not in miracles and magic, but I believe in greatness.

Each one of us has a different concept in mind about greatness, happiness and success. Some may want money, some love, some health, but whatever we want it may not be that hard to get, if we work for it.

Yeah, that’s the kind of dreamer I am. The one who believes that work, passion, determination and dream, can make miracles and magic. I believe that if we really love something and we work for it, there is nothing that can stand in our way. For as I have said again, dreams are masked possibilities.

I’m not saying it’s easy or painless, but I believe it can be done. Because the more we work, the more we evolve and learn. And what is life without knowledge? An empty, lonely road. And as much as we may enjoy loneliness now and then, we, people, are creatures of affection.

So, don’t be afraid, don’t be cowards despite the troubles and problems on your way. I try to be this way too and it’s an everyday battle. But it worth it. Not because I’m sure for a perfect outcome. No. Nothing is sure and nothing is given. But everything is possible. I like to live with that.

I think about this every time the downs decide to appear and trouble me, make my heart pound and my head ache.

Give it a try. It may work for you too. Just let me know.

And listen to this song. It fits. :)

  1. I'm a total dreamer, too. It's the only way to survive the days that are more tough and hopeless sometimes!

  2. Thank you for this wonderful post, Athina. The words reached deep down, I tell you. "But everything is possible. I like to live with that." That is just one of my favorite parts. I'm not sure if I'm a dreamer or a realist. I'm a Virgo, so I'm a pragmatic dreamer? A flighty realist? Maybe a bossy dreamer.

How is Damaged coming along? Is your mind wandering to unrelated stories? I do that.

    Happy flying!

    1. It's important to reach deep down in someone's heart. So thank you.

I am a Sagittarius, but I don't really know what that means. :)

The truth is that lately my mind do wanders to unrelated stories. Yesterday I wrote a few words. Actually I wrote a small part from the beginning of a new story, but it hasn't grown in my mind yet. I hope when I finish Damaged it would be ready.

      Are you writing something new?

    2. Nothing new in the real world yet, but you know that feeling of something great pushing at you, but you can't see all the angles yet? There is this house I drive by that this imaginary character lives in. I haven't created the discipline of carrying a notebook around with me, but I'm working on it. Do you take notes on what you see for future stories?

    3. Oh, yes. I know that feeling. I love that feeling. It's like what they say that the journey worth more than the destination. The journey holds the magic.
I take notes while writing a story. But for the future stories I don't. I let them mature in my mind like a good wine and then the time comes to write them down. Just as I wrote the beginning of a new story the other day. The words were in my mind like forever until I was ready to make them real. Somehow I feel like when I write it down, it takes substance.

You only mentioned driving by a house and I already built a story. :) What do you do when an idea comes in mind?

    4. I daydream excessively! And at the same time I listen more. Often I make a trial run at my ideas, but I can't start the story until I have the intro scene. I'm aiming this one to be YA contemporary romance, maybe with 2 POVs. Do you have any genres you just really want to write, but you know you're not ready?

The house is a disaster. I love it.

    5. I love our talks, Robyn. We should write a post together. :)

Well, Dazed was kind of a crime novel, but I don't know if I will finish the editing. I feel it's not quite ready. So. yeah, I'd like to write a crime novel. An actually crime and powerful novel, like the ones I love to read.

Contemporary romance, huh? I am a little confused with genres.

  3. Dreaming is very important to me, too. I think that dreams and hopes is what can make the world a better place to be in. And dreams can evolve to plans, and they can come true!
Wonderful post, Athina :) I hope you're continuing to work on your books to make them the best they can be.
